Cloudy Day Art #65 - National Book Festival - Poetry Out Loud

October 2, 2006

From left to right: Riva Dumont, Ken Huffman, Jackson Hille, Chris Estevez, Kendra Holloway, Shuqioa Song

This week’s poetry podcast features a few great interviews I captured while at the National Book Festival here in Washington, DC with a specific focus on the presentation of six students involved in the Poetry Out Loud competition. Special thanks to Dan Stone and Paulette Beete for their assistance in setting up the interview. The poets were Jackson Hille, Riva Dumont, Ken Huffman, Chris Estevez, Kendra Holloway, and Shuqio Song.

I also had the opportunity to speak with the poet laureate of Oregon, Lawson Inada and to interview a great poetry fan who recited “A Silken Tent” by Robert Frost from memory.

Be sure to vote in Slam Idol contest #14. My poem “Hurricane” is featured!

Outro song:
“Summer Days Have Gone” by Steffen Coonan
