Cloudy Day Art #49 - Second Sunday for May 2006
May 14, 2006
Hellooo Everybody,
This month’s “Second Sunday” theme was “Architecture and Buildings”. Not sure if it was the very harsh theme, but we only received one submission this month. No worries, the show keeps marching on! Thanks to Robert Parent of “The Write Stuff” podcast for submitting his poem “The Old Mill Buildings”.
I also share my poem “Construction”. I have included both poems on the “Poetry” page.
It has been more than a year now since our very first show. I’d like to thank all of you for your contributions and your wonderfull support. This show also contains the very first Cloudy Day Art poetry podcast from 27 April 2005. I hope you enjoy the show!

Cloudy Day Art #48 - Discussion on Finding the Muse with Harry Lafnear and Thom Ingram
May 7, 2006
We have an extra-special show for you this week. I had a great “round-table” discussion with Harry Lafnear of the Everyday Muse podcast and Thom Ingram of the Poetguru Podcast.
We talked about their similar but different poem-a-day projects and the lessons they have learned from them. We speak about creativity and finding your “muse”. We discuss whether the muse even exists or can anyone become a good writer if they are disciplined enough.
We invite you into the discussion. Tell us what you think.
Hear Harry Lafnear’s recite his poem “The Medicine Chest of Dorian Gray” on the Slam Idol podcast!

Publishing poetry and the beginnings of thought
May 4, 2006
Every so often a little voice inside my head suggest that I should publish my poetry. Then, I remind my little voice, “I don’t have that much poetry to publish”. Then my voice says, “Oh…yeah…nevermind”.
Anyway, I’ve decided that the only way to silence that voice is to first build up a body of work, so that I can at least give myself the option of publishing or not. And, as I am building up my works, I can submit single poems to various magazines, newspapers, articles, and podcasts to find out what kind of reception and feedback my poems get along the way.
In my entire life I have submitted poetry to three or four projects. Two of those were podcasts.
The Washington Post ran an article about some great publishing alternatives for us amateur writers. LuLu.com has gotten rave reviews for their on-demand publishing method. I have heard many unsung writers singing its praises. Blurb.com just debuted as a direct competitor as of yesterday. Both worth checking out.
So, as a result, I’m going to work hard at becoming a better, more frequent author. I’m putting together a discussion podcast on creativity and overcoming writer’s block with Thom Ingram of the Poet Guru Podcast and Harry Lafnear of the EveryDay Muse podcast to find out their techniques for their poem-a-day writing projects. We’re shooting for recording this Saturday. Stay tuned!

Bus Boys and Poets’ Andy Shallal
May 2, 2006
Just read a really informative article on Andy Shallal (you may have to register), the owner of DC’s Busboys and Poets. You may remember that venue from the “sound-seeing” visit I did a few months back during the Tuesday night open mic. (Check it out here).
Apparently he is quite the artist and entrepreneur. He is also going to be opening up an new Bus Boys and Poets in the Arlington area. I’m not sure if that one will be closer for me or not, but we’ll see.
Be on the lookout for an interview with him from Cloudy Day Art in the near future.
